Mr. Allen Woodall is one of the BEST professor I've met being at the University of Memphis. Not only did he provide me with great resources for class, He also provided me with resources that assisted with me with my own personal issues. He was also a listening ear, He never turned me away or blew me off. When I began taking Spanish, it was online and mostly VHL work. Mr. Woodall really taught me ALOT!! Also, Allen never made a difference between his students. He treated all of his the same, he also went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable asking questions, if needed. and he didn't mind answering any questions we had. Again, by far the BEST professor I've met being at University of Memphis!!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2020 - Intermediate Spanish II - 2023

I have taken his course two semesters in a row and loved it. I learned Spanish for the first time in my academic journey. enjoy his teaching style. The way he teaches helps me feel more comfortable with having conversations in Spanish. I am now motivated to continue to learn Spanish even though it is not required for my major.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 3303 - Spanish Composition - 2023

Professor Allen is one of the more genuine professors. He assigns a lot of homework and pushes you to do your best. Everything that I have experienced him do for his students is out of the care of his heart in wanting them to improve and succeed. Aside from those qualities, because he wants the best for his students, his demeanor can cause somewhat a level of anxiety in his students. Nonetheless, great professor!

I think this class was very helpful for improving my writing skills. Allen taught us how to extend our sentences to provide more details as well as not be repetitive. There was a lot of work for this course but Allen made sure to help provide feedback and get the grades to us in a timely manner so we had time to do corrections.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 3303 - Spanish Composition - 2023

I thought that my Spanish writing improved astronomically because of Professor Allen's Composition course. We had lots and lots of practice writing in Spanish, and Professor Allen gave us lots of individual feedback. I thought that my Spanish speaking skills improved as a result of this course and my English writing too. We had to work really hard and sometimes I couldn't believe I had to write another sentence in Spanish, but the work/feedback/more work cycle did wonders. We had lots of reading to do in Spanish so that we could see examples of how we were supposed to write, and we learned new vocabulary and grammar as well. Professor Allen was available to talk to about your assignments. He was very patient with us and helped each of us grow as writers from where we were individually at the start of the semester, which is not easy to do. I really like Professor Allen's style of teaching. He is fun and patient and gives good, constructive feedback. The course was also really well organized and set up for success in learning.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 3303 - Spanish Composition - 2023

Professor Allen was a very thorough, caring, yet challenging teacher. This class taught me a lot in bettering my writing such as being able to expand on ideas, using better vocabulary, and finding good transitions without being repetitive. I would say I am more confident in my writing and speaking skills because of this class. It is a lot of challenging work, but if you stay on top of it, you can learn a lot. I am glad that he offered office hours in order to do revisions and talk about any other concerns/issues. There were some activities that we did in class that I wish were a little more structured, and I wish there would have been more given vocabulary and transitions in some of our work to use. I think that would have been beneficial. Otherwise, if you want to learn to write in Spanish, or just improve your writing skills, this is the class to take!

Profe Allen has been an exceptional professor this past semester. One thing that he does that puts him above all other professors is that he REGULARLY has us complete surveys on how to class is going. We have done this multiple times during this course and without fail, he listens to our responses, suggestions, and criticisms and changes how the course is structured to fit the needs of his students the best. He always tries to be available, answers emails in record time, and has always agreed to meet with us if we wanted to discuss a grade, the class, or even if we just want to chat. I am forever grateful that I have gotten the chance to be in a course taught by him and I hope that other students get the ability to do so as well. My love for this language has grown beyond my expectations and I am sure that if you take one of his classes, yours will too.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2020 - Intermediate Spanish II - 2023

This was my second course with Professor Woodall, and originally it was planned to be taught by someone else. The first day when I saw him walk in I was very happy because he has a great sense of enthusiasm for the course. He gives detailed feedback, and gives corrections. He encourages participation over perfection, and tells us it’s okay to make mistakes. As long as you try in this course and READ THE RUBRIC, you will do good! He puts a lot of effort into teaching and helping his students.

AMAZING, THOUGHTFUL, AND GETS TO KNOW ALL OF US. Sticks to his rubric. Take his class for sure <3

My evaluation on Professor Woodall is that he is a great professor, he’s very knowledgeable and his willingness to help his students ability to help them pass their tests and assignments.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2020 - Intermediate Spanish II - 2023

Professor Allen is a great professor, he is very passionate about his work and makes sure to help out as much as possible when needed. He makes sure to speak 90-95% Spanish.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 3301 - Spanish Conversation - 2023

Profe Allen is an exceptional professor. He gets to know each of his students one-on-one and challenges every individual student in the best way possible. While this may come off occasionally as tough grading, he recognizes the potential of every student and cares deeply about your learning. His grading is very clear and he gives precise feedback so you can progress in the course. He is always willing to work with you to ensure your success and his classes are always engaging. Each class is somewhat lecture-based and largely discussion-based. As someone who used to dread speaking up in class, he pushed me both professionally and personally and I have learned so much from his course. My Spanish has improved tremendously and I feel prepared for my more advanced Spanish courses. He takes student feedback very seriously and is always aiming to improve. I cannot recommend his classes highly enough!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 3301 - Spanish Conversation - 2023

This professor is very supportive and encouraging. He expects a lot from his students but he gives them the support in and out of class.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2023

Professor Allen is simply the best. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed and grow in the Spanish language. He takes time to specifically address every student individually to help them improve on their specific weaknesses. I would love to have him as a professor for any other class in the future.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2023

Prof. Allen was very passionate about teaching. He was very good at engaging the class and making the material fun. His sense of humor was very helpful with this. His goal was to see improvement in every student regardless of their level, and those expectations were helpful because everyone was on a different level coming into the class. I’ve improved greatly in his class, and many other students did as well.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2023

Professor Allen is very enthusiastic about teaching Spanish, and very encouraging. He speaks majority in Spanish but explains in English when necessary. He puts a lot of effort into answering emails and questions outside of class time, as well as offers excel sheets to sign up for his office hours. You can tell he wants his students to succeed, but he also understands the stress of being a student. Professor Allen is one of if not the best Spanish teacher I’ve had, and I’ve had a decent amount.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2023

Professor Woodall is genuinely one of the greatest professors I will ever have. Coming into SPAN 2010, I was a Spanish minor and have always had a love for the language, that being said, Professor Woodall has encouraged me and renewed this love for Spanish. Not only is it obvious that Spanish is his passion, but he genuinely does everything he can to make sure each person in his class is set up to succeed to the best of their ability. He went above and beyond to make himself available to personally help anyone who wanted assistance or needed to talk. Additionally, he was so incredibly respectful of every person in our class, from pronouns to personal lives and everything in between. I cannot thank Professor Woodall enough for everything he has done for me and my Spanish journey.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

Professor Woodall was professional and well-connected to his students and made sure that they understood all vocab, grammar, and assessments. I really enjoyed how Professor Woodall pushed me to learn more about Spanish. In the beginning of the semester, I thought that he gave way too much work. Now, I see that this work created great results. So much so, that I have decided to minor in Spanish. I can not thank Professor Woodall enough for aiding me in my Spanish journey.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

Professor Allen is a great professor to be sure. I found myself struggling greatly early on in this class due to an illness leaving me behind but his great teaching style with plenty of effective feedback greatly helped me catch up throughout the semester despite my struggles. He was also thoroughly accommodating through an injury I suffered, allowing me plenty of additional time and accommodations for various assignments in the class. Would recommend to anyone interested in Spanish and would take him again.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

I am a Spanish Minor at the University of Memphis. During my high school years I had a Spanish teacher who was particularly mean and relied more on pressure and humiliation to teach than actual knowledge. Despite that, I want to make a career speaking Spanish and Professor Allen has made this college journey beyond wonderful. He treats his students as equals and allows us a safe space to practice speaking and learning the language. If you have the chance of taking one of his language courses, I urge you to do it. This has been one of the most fun and enlightening classes I have ever taken. I am currently looking towards studying abroad and I can only thank Professor Allen for the encouragement!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

I had Professor Woodall for Spanish 2010. He is a very good and disciplined Professor. He helps me understand Spanish and is very helpful. When working on assignments he goes around the classroom and makes sure everyone is understanding the topic and will help you if needed. I would recommend him. Some things I do not necessarily love, like group work. I feel like it can be too much group work and I like to work at my own pace. I also think that the teaching can be a little too fast and confusing. Overall great Professor.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

I had professor Allen for SPAN [2010] and I can say he truly brought my love for Spanish back. I struggle with speaking especially coming from a native speaking family, however, I never felt judge in his class. He looked at his students as future Spanish speakers rather than just regular joes. His class is very fast pace but each lesson build on each other and help the student continue to build their current knowledge of Spanish. He provides information, feedback and resources for students who are interested in continuing their Spanish.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2022

Professor Allen has made me feel more comfortable speaking Spanish in the year that I have taken him. He seriously cares about his students and makes sure everyone is on the same page. The pace is fast, but challenging in a beneficial way. Allen has taught me more content in Spanish than I have ever learned (high school and freshman year).

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 46306 - Applied Spanish Linguistics - 2022

Professor Woodall (Allen) left an impression I did not think I would receive. That is to say, he taught me a valuable lesson. Specifically, it was a lesson in professionalism--and it will be useful not only during the rest of my academic career but hereafter in all future pursuits. In this way, I have to hold Allen up to a high standard; I truly believe this advice of his will benefit me in more ways than I know. Therefore, I am thankful that I took his course this Spring.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 1020 - Elementary Spanish II - 2022

Professor Allen is a kind and passionate person. He does care about his students and if you reach out to him he is very willing to help. Sometimes it was hard to follow along in the class. The material is difficult, especially if you are not good at speaking Spanish. However, I think he taught the best he could for what he was given. My advice to students would be if you need help staying on track in his course then just ask him and visit office hours. He is happy to work with you and help you get to where you need to be.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 1020 - Elementary Spanish II - 2022

Professor Allen grew my Spanish understanding more than past instructors have in high school and college. I have found myself trying harder and also pushing myself to do better. He is a professor that is set on making a student learn. This includes authentic class participation, homework, and oral and written assessments. These Spanish courses are not for everyone, there has to be a will to try and succeed. I thank Professor Allen for a gained confidence in this difficult language to understand.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 1020 - Elementary Spanish II - 2022

Professor Allen is a very intelligent individual who is excellent at creating a structured and detailed learning environment. One can really tell that he wants his students to do well as he pushes their knowledge daily in order to encourage growth. Though I found the class challenging at first as Spanish is spoken the majority of the time, I now find myself understanding a large portion of the conversations that occur in the classroom setting as well as in other environments. He is sensitive to students needs and encourages diversity and individuality among students. I felt welcomed and seen in this classroom. I am very happy for this challenging, yet helpful course.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 1020 - Elementary Spanish II - 2022

Allen is a lovely example of how teachers can be constructive to students but still create a safe environment where students do not feel the need to be perfect. In class, he always wants students to do the best that they can and offers valuable, constructive feedback so that students can focus on getting better. I honestly would recommend more regular feedback throughout the entire year so that students can focus on what they may be getting wrong rather than "fitting" the language in, but other than that, this course is extremely valuable to the student learning experience. He also is a teacher who genuinely believes in representation- and I am more grateful for that than anything else. I have never had a teacher use LGBT+ examples in a class and it helped me feel more at ease while learning, knowing that I was respected and seen in this learning environment.

Faculty - University of Memphis - Spring 2022

Professor Woodall's Elementary Spanish II class was very well contextualized and student-centered with various communicative activities that spiraled upward in difficulty from the beginning of the session to the end. The class began with an overview of the body parts in Spanish where Professor Woodall engaged the students in through use of physical response and association of body parts with movements, including cultural notes about the names of the fingers in Spanish. During the activities where students were asked to apply this vocabulary in context, Professor Woodall made sure that all students had a partner/small group and continuously reminded them to keep speaking in Spanish. Throughout the class, he noted participation of all students, and not once when he asked for volunteers were there not multiple hands in the air, waiting to share with the class. During one of the vocabulary-association activities, Professor Woodall realized that students were struggling to complete the activity, even after sharing a model with the group, so he pivoted and guided the students through the activity to build their confidence. His students truly made an effort to speak Spanish in class, and this is no doubt due to his encouragement and expectations for his students. The culminating activity for the class on vocabulary tied all of the previous activities together by linking all of the contextualized vocab words and asking students to write a story. Students used the new vocabulary as well as recycled preterite tense from previous chapters and shared their answers with the class. All students were engaged and participating. This was a great class, and it is clear by Professor Woodall's preparation and lesson design that he is preparing his students for success in real-world communication strategies and future language study.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 1020 - Elementary Spanish II - 2022

Professor Allen is a great teacher for intermediate or advanced Spanish courses. I feel that he has very high expectations and sometimes forgets that 1020 is still a beginner course for people learning Spanish. He should be more conscious of where the students are in the class. His grading is not terrible, but it is harsh. I feel that he should maybe be more lenient when grading. He also speaks in Spanish a lot and very fast, making it difficult to understand what is going on. I know it is essential to speak in Spanish most of the time, but not as much as he did, especially for a beginner's course. VHL was very overwhelming. Sometimes the in-class lessons would not line up with the text, or there were lessons in the text we did not discuss in class. Overall, This was a great cause, and he did an excellent job teaching it.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Overall I enjoyed this class. I think that some of the VHL lessons did not do a good job of teaching, but Professor Allen made up for it. He's really passionate about teaching Spanish and that's what made me like the class the most.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

I have been taking Spanish classes since the 6th grade. Now, as a junior in college, I can honestly say that Don Allen is the best Spanish instructor I've had. I'm used to instructors being very lenient about the quality of work I turn in, being that Spanish is not my first language. However, he is the first Spanish instructor to push me out of my comfort zone. It wasn't until after his class that I truly began to believe in my Spanish speaking abilities. I have gained a stronger desire to continue learning Spanish because of his encouragement and the high standards he held me to.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Professor Allen has been one of the most influential and passionate professors I have ever taken. He is dedicated to the craft of teaching, demands nothing less than a student's BEST efforts. If you are genuinely committed to improving your command of the Spanish language, I HIGHLY recommend taking his course.

Though I am not sure who controls how certain activities are weighed, I suggest that certain activities be weighed differently. For example, in my class, we were tasked with doing a mini-project wherein we were paired up with a group of our peers to complete an assignment and present our work to the rest of the class. Though this particular activity had all the feelings of a typical group project, it was considered participation, which was not very much.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Mr. Woodall was a very passionate instructor that encourages his students to play active roles in discussions and completing work. The only assignment I have struggled with were the in-class writing assignments. I had taking at least two semesters off from any language classes, so I was a bit confused in the first days, and did pretty bad on the first one. But I feel as if, he did his best considering this was an intermediate class. I have always been a perfectionist and made sure to turn in every assignment, so I had no major issues. One thing that should be taken into account and worked on is the pace of the class. Some people are slow learners who don't have time for tutoring in between classes and work. Other than that, I had a good time!!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Professor Don Allen is very passionate about teaching. The class requires you to be actively engaged in order to pass. 95% of this class is spoken in Spanish, so if you are not doing as well in this language it can be a little difficult to catch on. I would say he should reevaluate his honors deadlines and final communicative project as they will collide with one another. I'm glad that all work can be completed in class. VHL can be frustrating. Some words are not properly translated or some key concepts or words are missing from the textbook. I would suggest that Professor Don Allen be more aware of where his students stand in his class. He does not expect you to know everything, but sometimes I think he forgets that some of us are easily confused. Overall, he is a great professor and I enjoyed his class.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Professor Woodall was very good at conveying concepts in a way that I, as a pretty clueless student was able to understand. He does a great job of pushing involvement. Although it may have been uncomfortable at first, once I grasped what he was saying, I was excited to participate. Very positive experience!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Very interactive, great explanations of the content. Not too much of a work load.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Hands down, one of the best professors I've ever had. He was polite and understanding and was very patient with us when we didn't know how to pronounce something correctly or had trouble understanding the assignments. I don't think there were any drawbacks to this class. I had a great semester!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Genuinely, my experience as a student in the SPAN-2010 course was great. I admire your dedication to education and ability to inspire your students. The workload was conducive to the course, and your lectures were interesting and relatable to the students, in a way that hooked us into wanting to learn more. You were very patient and I appreciated that we were able to correct ourselves and maintain a better grade. It was easy to follow the material, and since you spoke in Spanish constantly, it was easy to pick up on vocabulary and gramatical structures. I hope that I will be able to take one of your courses again in the future.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

At the beginning of the course, I was apprehensive about learning Spanish and found it difficult. I struggled with the course assignments and became partnered with other people who were as confused as I was. However, Don Allen brought me out of my confusion and allowed me to flourish in this class. He explained things in easy to understand ways and pushed me to do better. At the end of the semester, I was a student who completed the assignments with ease and found myself volunteering to answer questions in class frequently. Overall, Don Allen's teaching has been excellent for me and all my peers!

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

I learned a lot of grammar in SPAN 2010 which is something that I feel is extremely important, but I never really went in depth in learning it until this course. Overall, I really enjoyed the class and the Professor.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Allen was a good teacher that was fair to his students and was willing to help at anytime. The course got easier and more fun towards the end, like they do! The one thing I surely did not enjoy were the in-class writing assessments. I do not believe it helped me say what I wanted to say cause what I wanted to say was always limited. Other than that, the course and Allen were great.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Profe Woodall was a great professor. He does a good job of explaining the concepts of spanish and specific usages of certain tenses within the language. I enjoyed class with him this semester and hope I can use what he's taught me in my future spanish classes.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

Professor Woodall was a superb instructor. All throughout his course, he has been very relatable and easy to approach. He makes the content you learn very easy to follow and easy to understand. As with any language, there will be some barriers or obstacles and with Professor Woodall, those barriers seemed a lot less scary.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

I would not say this class was necessarily enjoyable besides some of the activities that were assigned. However the way Professor Allen teaches is about a 8.5 on learning Spanish. If a student is really looking to learn this language, he does a good job with his own teaching methods. Super passionate about the language and is very good at explaining.

Student - University of Memphis - SPAN 2010 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2021

He's a great professor! Throughout the semester he was patient, kind, and animated which made the class more enjoyable. If you were struggling he offered many resources to help you exceed in class. He genuinely cares about your success in the class.

Supervisor - University of Georgia - 2019-2020 Academic Year

Allen entered the PhD program in Spanish in Fall 2019 and taught two sections of SPAN 1001. He has shown himself to be a generous collaborator and highly amenable to feedback. During the monthly Spanish Teaching circles, he had positive contributions to make to cooperative tasks such as the creation of evaluation on quizzes and tests. His Spanish language instruction has been very strong, and he has demonstrated great enthusiasm and potential for growth in his teaching.

In the classroom, Allen leads the group with ease, establishing a rigorous but supportive atmosphere that encourages student engagement. The class is very on-task, and participates with enthusiasm. Allen excels at conveying meaning in the target language. He uses models and examples in addition to humor and image cues to help students understand and maintain focus, such as a warmup activity on the family of Ron Weasley in Harry Potter to review vocabulary related to family members. Allen’s Spanish is natural and authentic in rhythm and information, but pitched so that students find him easy to follow. A class I observed reflected careful organization and well-planned activities to support various learning objectives. By chance, that day that I had the opportunity to observe Allen teach part of a textbook unit based on a professionally produced video about his own experiences as an American living in Spain. This was a treat, and Allen led the activities very successfully without letting his “celebrity status” distract from the instruction at hand.

In their course evaluations, students rate Allen highly on availability for extra assistance, as in the case of one who stated that “I believe that my entire class was pushed to do as best as we possibly could. He was willing to help at any time, in or outside of class,” Another student expressed it succinctly in the comment “He always went out of his way for us.” While students acknowledge that the immersion approach can be overwhelming at first for some, They recognize its benefits: “The use of Spanish in everyday course instruction forced me to develop and perfect my speaking abilities, amounting to much-needed practical training in Spanish.” Allen’s students appreciate his ability to integrate his knowledge of Spanish culture into his classes as well. His average rating for overall teaching effectiveness was 4.55/5, a strong figure that I am confident will continue. I look forward to continuing to work with Allen in the future.

I absolutely loved being is Woodall’s class. While we were still in person, I looked forward to his classes- as he taught extremely well and made class enjoyable. Once we transitioned online, he was still just as available and helpful as before. If I could take his class for every level of SPAN, I easily would!

Don Allen was an excellent instructor. His teaching was very organized and clear. At all times, it was easy to learn and ask questions. His skill and technique of teaching to Spanish to students helped me become more fluent in Spanish.

Student - University of Georgia - SPAN 2001 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2020

I took this course during my first semester of freshman year. He was very welcoming and encouraging. Because of the pandemic, he held zoom classes and encouraged going in person on assigned dates. He even took time to hold additional zoom sessions to do more activities and practice grammar and vocabulary. I really appreciated all of his effort and passion in teaching us and making the course enjoyable. Originally I was taking the class to fulfill the requirement but I decided to officially minor in Spanish after the course.

Student - University of Georgia - SPAN 2001 - Intermediate Spanish I - 2020

Professor Woodall was a fantastic instructor. He was always helpful, patient, and informative. There was no question that I could ask that would catch him off-guard. He supplied a plentitude of resources; when studying for a quiz or exam or working on a project I never had to wonder where to find help or information. His lectures were always interesting and engaging but most importantly, they were helpful preparation for assignments/conversation, not soapboxing. I truly enjoyed his course and learned a lot from it. I went from speaking Spanish tentatively and timidly to articulating my ideas with competence and confidence. I wish that all Spanish teachers would take his approach! He is a wonderful professor and I truly appreciated one of my first courses at UGA being so orderly, supportive, and enlightening.

Student - University of Georgia - SPAN 1001 - Elementary Spanish I - 2019

Professor Woodall was an amazing professor. As a freshman coming in, I was scared and anxious of taking college courses much less a language I have no experience in. Professor Woodall washed all the anxiety away the first day of class. He was interactive, encouraging, and funny. His class's were the highlight of my week. The fundamentals taught by him carried on until Spanish 2001. He answered any questions I had whether that was through office hours, email, or even after class. I hope Professor Woodall all the best for his future endeavors, and I am sure he will inspire others just like me.

I took Professor Woodall’s elementary Spanish class my first year at UGA. Although I took spanish for multiple years in high school, I never understood it as well as I did when Professor Woodall taught me. He is an incredible teacher and will take time to make sure that each concept of fully understood. I recommend him for any level of Spanish. He found a way to make the class enjoyable which made it easier to learn.

Student - University of Georgia - SPAN 1001 - Elementary Spanish I - 2019

Professor Woodall was the best Spanish teacher I have ever had in my undergraduate. He always made a great effort to ensure everyone understood the material, and made learning a language as interactive and fun as possible. If every one of my Spanish teachers taught to the level of professor Woodall, I would most likely be fluent at this point in my learning.

Student - University of Georgia - SPAN 1001 - Elementary Spanish I - 2019

Professor Woodall was one of the greatest professors I have had so far in my college career. I took his intro Spanish class my freshman year. I had never taken Spanish before and at first, learning a new language for the first time seemed so intimidating. However, professor Woodall made the class engaging and created a positive learning environment for me to have a great learning experience. He always reached out to help us through office hours, emails, in-class feedback, and so much more. He did a phenomenal job working with our class as there were so many different students with different backgrounds in Spanish. As I conclude, the most dynamic takeaway that I loved about his class is that he was very inclusive and welcoming of everyone. Even when I faced difficulties, he always motivated me to keep persevering. The fundamentals that I gained through this course have carried me through further levels of Spanish. I will never forget Professor Woodall and the beautiful impact he made on my life as a student.

This was my first Spanish class as a university student. He did an amazing job teaching and providing the resources we needed. He was also incredibly understanding as a teacher which is a great quality.

Professor Woodall was an excellent instructor for Spanish 2001. Though the concepts could be difficult, he made sure to take extra time with students to help them understand them. This class was hybrid in-person and zoom because of the pandemic, and professor Woodall did a good job of making the class engaging in both formats without alienating either group. I came out of the class with a much stronger understanding than before, and I would recommend that any of my peers take his class. Even though Spanish is challenging for me, Professor Woodall encouraged hard work and taught the concepts so well that I ended the semester with an A, something I never thought was possible in Spanish.

Allan maintained an instructional environment with interactive exercises. I was genuinely excited for the class each week because I was enjoying getting to know my peers while learning about the language and culture. Allan was also extremely supportive towards our individual learning, as shown in his responsiveness and willing to coordinate. It is obvious that language is a passion of his, which translates well in his teaching strategies.

Professor Woodall has been one of my best instructors at the University of Georgia. I grew so much in learning how to speak Spanish. I could tell he had a passion for the language through his teaching, and that means so much in helping students find passion in learning the language too. I developed more in my Spanish speaking in one class with Professor Woodall than I ever did learning Spanish for years throughout high school. I truly enjoyed his class and looked forward to learning everyday because he pushed us to speak and get involved, and that was the best way for me to learn.

Professor Woodall was an incredible teacher. Having no formal background education of the Spanish language, Professor Woodall explained concepts perfectly and was patient with us students. In fact, some of the main concepts he taught have stuck with me throughout the next few Spanish classes I took.

Professor Woodall was by far the most effective Spanish teacher I've ever had. Despite having forgotten most of the Spanish I learned in high school, I quickly relearned what I knew and much more. The classes were always engaging, and it was clear that he cared about helping the students as much as possible. He not only taught the mandatory curriculum, but also helped us understand Spanish in a way that would be best to use it in real-world situations.

The feeling of taking your first classes at a university can have an array of expectations, and leads to an unbelievable amount of uncertainty. You can never expect how the class will slowly progress, nor how the professor would be either. But by instructing this class in excellence, Don Allen made the environment one I wanted to constantly be surrounded in. I am thankful for him and his class, and it is one I will remember for the rest of my life.

Professor Woodall was a phenomenal Spanish professor! I took him spring of 2020, and I was sad that we no longer had in-person class because I LOVED attending his classes! his activities pushed practicing conversations with those around you, and because of that, I was able to build new friendships alongside learning the beautiful Spanish language. However, once we went online, his intentionality and care for his students did not end. He was quick to answer emails, meet up with students, and help in any way possible! Excellent professor and outstanding human being!

Professor Allen always came to class ready to go and made class feel relaxed. He is a special ability of bringing humor into his class and making us the students comfortable when we make mistakes. Professor Allen really makes his student feel comfortable in his class and he supports us in our learning. He would make additional at any university or school, he is truly one of the best professors I have had here at UGA.

I had Allen my first semester at UGA. I had to take the class for my major and was unsure of learning a foreign language, but he made it a joy to learn and easy to learn. I’m glad my first experience with Spanish was with Allen.
